In case any of you have not already noticed, FoobaREMIX version 0.1, the first prototype version, has been released. We have also provided some screenshots of some old mock-ups. Note – this is what it currently looks like right now, however, this version is by no means what the final product will look like. In fact, we have already finished 0.2, but we are waiting for a DivShare upgrade before we upload it. So keeping checking back until it is released. It will be amazing!
So, what is FoobaREMIX? We used to be WinAmp and iTunes users, but one day we stumbled upon Foobar2000. Though we thought it was very plain, we were also curious. We read that Foobar was highly customizable, and wanted to see how far we could take it. We started working, doing much reaserch (most of it at HydrogenAudio) and experimenting with layouts and color shemes. After doing this for a while, we decided that it was good enough, and decided that we would put it on the web, so that friends could easily download it. It is an added bonus that other people can get it, too, and we encourage everyone to download it. We still have WinAmp and iTunes installed, but rarely use them. We will continue work on our project until we deem it to be complete.
The purpose of FoobaREMIX is to have a readilly available pre-customized version of Foobar2000. Most Foobar users (by most we mean all) end up heavilly upgrading their personal Foobars. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to many hours. FoobaREMIX has most of the customization done for you, so all you’ll have to do is tweak it. It is also great for users with little Foobar experiance, or even limited computer skills in general. It is especially great for those who just want to download a music player and not have to deal with the customization.
At it’s current stage, FoobaREMIX is mostly asthetic changes. The interface is far from complete, and it is noticably different in 0.2 (you’ll see when we release it). 0.2 will also include some changes to application behavior as well (think a few new, small features). If you want to see what we are all about, download it and take a look. It is portable, so don’t worry about it screwing anything up. Even if you download this version, we strongly reccommend upgrading when 0.2 is released. It is better. Untill then, enjoy!
PS – if you decide to download this version, please feel free to leave any suggestions in the comments. Some of your ideas may already be implemented in 0.2, and if they’re not, you probably won’t see them until 0.3. However, if you do have a good suggestion, we can start work on implementing it right away, seeing as we’ve already started on 0.3! (Our current internal build is v0.2.5, but we are not realeasing this one.)
